Animal Hybrid Freecoaster/Cassette Hub Description:
The Animal Sherman Hybrid Hub blends the best qualities of a freecoaster and a cassette hub into one versatile and durable design. Built around cassette-style internals rather than a traditional heavy steel clutch system, it offers the lighter weight, strength, and reliability riders expect while still delivering the slack and feel of a freecoaster. Its triple-setting slack system provides a larger and adjustable slack range than most cassette-based freecoasters, letting riders fine-tune the response to their preference.
At the heart of the hub is the magnetic pawl retention system, which uses magnets to keep the pawls retracted for smooth, low-maintenance performance, paired with a wave spring friction system for consistent engagement. The hub can also be easily converted into a traditional cassette by installing the included springs under the pawls, effectively giving riders two hubs in one.
Built for aggressive street riding, the Sherman Hybrid features a strong 17mm center axle with larger sealed bearings, thick hub flanges, and oversized 14mm female bolts that allow the wheel to be run slammed while still being removable without breaking the chain. The female axle bolts act as the failsafe so there is no need to worry about bent axles. The bolts are replaceable for a fraction of the cost of an axle.
The included drive and non-drive side hub guards have been redesigned with a larger diameter and steep angles to prevent hang-ups on rails and ledges, helping pegs lock in smoothly during grinds. An anti-roll tab on the drive-side guard keeps it securely in place, and the hub shell is finished with the sweet Animal tank badges. True to Animal’s reputation, the Sherman Hybrid is built tough, simple, and ready to handle serious street riding.
